The Cost of This Job
We don't post a flat number here because roller jobs vary more than people expect. A straight swap of 10 steel rollers on a standard double door is a different job than one where the track is bent, the roller stems are worn oval, or a bottom bracket has to come off because the roller seized inside it.
Worn steel roller stems
Houses built in the 1980s and 90s - which is most of what's out here - often still have the builder-grade steel rollers that came with the original door, and by now those are worn enough that the stems are the problem, not just the wheel.
Quieter nylon, higher unit cost
That pushes a job from a 20-minute roller swap into bracket and track work. Nylon sealed-bearing rollers cost more per unit than steel, but they run quieter and don't need the oiling steel rollers want in our humidity. We'll tell you which one your door actually needs once we're looking at the wear pattern, not before.
Bent track limits roller fixes
One honest limit: if the track itself is bent or the door is older than the roller problem suggests, roller replacement alone won't fix the noise, and we'll say so instead of selling you rollers that won't solve it.

The Symptom
It starts as a rattle, usually right as the door passes the bend where the track turns from vertical to horizontal. Give it a few weeks and it turns into a grinding sound, then a jump - the door shudders instead of rolling.
Opener strain from rollers
Some owners feel it in the opener before they hear it: the motor works harder, strains, maybe reverses partway up. Look at the rollers themselves and you'll often see flat spots worn into the wheel, a stem that wobbles instead of sitting straight, or rust rings where a steel roller has been sitting in a damp track overnight.
Bottom rollers wear first
On an 18-foot double door, the bottom rollers carry more cycles and wear first, so that's usually where the noise originates even though it sounds like it's coming from the top.
Whole-set roller replacement
If only one or two rollers are shot, we replace what's bad. If the rest are close behind, replacing the whole set at once saves a second service call a few months out.
What Is on the Truck
We carry both 7-ball and 10-ball sealed nylon rollers in the common stem lengths, plus steel rollers for owners who want to match an existing matched set rather than mix materials mid-door.
Standard stem roller sizes
We stock standard 2-inch and 4-inch stem rollers, the sizes that fit the vast majority of residential doors built from the 1950s through today, along with the brackets that commonly fail alongside a worn roller - top fixture, bottom bracket, and the short track sections that get dented when a roller finally jumps the rail.
Custom stems and track runs
What we don't carry on the truck is replacement full track runs or custom stem lengths for older or imported doors; if your door needs one of those, we'll order it and come back rather than guess at a fit on-site.
Roller lubrication at finish
Lubricant goes on every steel roller we install before we leave, since that's the one maintenance step most owners skip and the one that buys the most life out of a steel wheel.
What Causes It Around Here
Housing in this service area mostly went up between 1956 and 2014, with the bulk of it - across the 18 communities we cover - built in the 1980s and 90s. That means a lot of original builder-grade steel rollers are now 30 to 40 years past installation, well beyond the point where wear is cosmetic. Add the climate: this area sits in a mild band with some freeze risk but no real deep-cold stretch, which sounds easy on hardware, but it also means steady humidity and condensation inside garages that aren't climate controlled. Steel rollers sitting in that moisture rust from the inside of the stem out, which you can't see until the roller binds and starts grinding. Nylon rollers don't rust, which is part of why we recommend them as a straight upgrade rather than a like-for-like steel replacement on anything built before the 2000s. This isn't a problem specific to one neighborhood - it shows up the same way whether the house is near Nassau Bay, out toward Dickinson, or closer to Kemah - because the housing age and the climate are the two things driving it, not the street.
